Mountain gorillas in Rwanda: a luxury guide

What the trek is like, what the permit costs, when to go and how to combine it with safari or beach.

Standing before a family of mountain gorillas is one of the most moving encounters nature offers. And today it can be experienced in full comfort.

What the trek is like

You set off early toward Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda) and walk between 1 and 4 hours through the forest until you locate your assigned gorilla family. Time with them is limited and magical. In luxury, the pace adapts to you and everything — permits, porters, guides — is taken care of.

The permit

Access to the gorillas is regulated with limited, high-cost permits (part of the money funds the conservation that has saved the species). We arrange permits and dates, which sell out well in advance.

When to go and how to combine it

The dry seasons (June-September and December-February) make trekking easier. Rwanda combines beautifully with a classic savanna safari or a few days of rest, and even with Uganda. A short trip, but one of the unforgettable kind.
